A Warm Welcome

A warm welcome from the Christians gathered unto the name of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Highbury Avenue Gospel Hall in London, Ontario. We have regular preaching and teaching from the Word of God as well as multiple Sunday schools and other activities. We would be happy to see you and we invite you to come visit us. May the Lord bless you in whatever need you have.

If you have never come to rely completely on the Saviour of sinners and on His death and resurrection which He accomplished for you, we would urge you to receive eternal salvation from the Lord Jesus as the gift of God (Eph 2:8-9).

1Co 15:3 Christ died for our sins

Eph 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

New Testament gathering of Christians…

Just as the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is nicely summarized in John 3:16, the characteristics of how the early Christians gathered together are nicely summarized in Acts 2:41-42.

Acts 2:41-42 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

The principles, patterns and practices for a New Testament church gathering are plainly recorded for us in the New Testament, telling us about the how the early Christians assembled together and about the doctrine that they believed and practiced.

If you are a Christian, we would encourage you to consider carefully and prayerfully what the New Testament clearly teaches. You might be surprised to know that you will not find any pope, priests, pastors, reverends, or any other form of clergy in the New Testament church. Look as you may, you will also not find in the New Testament any Christian organizations or any established hierarchy or any central headquarters. Neither will you see the collection of funds from unbelievers. Those that believed on Jesus were called by several names, including Christians, saints, disciples and brethren, but never will you see them called after a denominational name.

These are just a few of many discrepancies you might find when comparing some common religious practices with what is actually observed and taught in the New Testament. Every true believer would do well to have the attitude of the Berean Jews of old:

Acts 17:11 … they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

As fellow Christians, we would testify to you that there is a great blessing in returning to the simplicity that is found in Christ and that is found in His New Testament. May the Lord bless you with His grace as we await His soon coming and may He put into all of us a desire to seek out His ways even as they are written for us in His Holy Word. Here are the Bible verses referenced above for your consideration.

Gathering to His name

Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

1 Cor 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

1 Cor 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Preaching the Gospel

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

1 Cor 1:23-24 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Baptizing believers

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

John 3:23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Holding the Apostles’ doctrine

Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Continuing in true fellowship

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Gal 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

1 John 1:3,6 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ… If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

Weekly observance of the Lord’s supper

Luke 22:19-20 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

1 Cor 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Collective prayer

Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

1 Tim 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

1 Thes 5:25 Brethren, pray for us.

Lord’s imminent return for His own

1 Thes 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 Thes 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1 Thes 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
